My Friday
I never really thought I would be a blogger. Actually, I am one of those people who really do not like blogs. I have a fear that I am going to turn out like Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality- the girl who criticizes but then ends up liking what I criticized. Honestly, I am not really sure what I should write about. I mean, what could I write about that would interest everyone? I’ll just start with my Friday. Friday started the best weekend that I have had down in Tuscaloosa since moving here. Friday morning began with an early morning ( 5:30 to be exact) practice for cross country. We had a three mile run at race pace, and I was pleasantly surprised by my time. Then I had three hours before my first class of the day, English, leaving just enough time to take a solid nap. English flew by, but afterwards I had to drag my feet all the way to Intro to Listening, my least favorite class. I sat in class for fifteen minutes, but my professor never showed up. I kept thinking, “No way is this happening, I never get this lucky.” Every time the door opened my mind said, “This is it, she is here.” But it truly was my lucky day, because my professor did not walk through the doors, so I left after fifteen minutes. This meant that I had the whole afternoon to myself, to do whatever I desired. I desired to do nothing but relax- just sit outside on the quad, and listen to and watch my surroundings. The air was so fresh and crisp compared to the stale air that infiltrates my dorm and classrooms. After two hours of just chilling on the quad, I headed back to my dorm to get ready for my pledge formals that night. I had all the time in the world, so I got ready in shifts, watching the US Open for tennis between stages. Time was the ultimate luxury; I had forgotten what it felt like to not be rushed. At eight thirty my date picked me up and we headed to Tutwiler to leave for formals, which were going to be in Birmingham. There were four charter buses waiting to take the girls in my sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, and their dates to Zydaco. We boarded the buses at 9, and we sat, and we sat, and then we sat some more. I had to make conversation with my date for two hours before we even left for Birmingham! Even though that was less than ideal, it ended up being enjoyable. Kind of like writing this blog is less than ideal for me, but it has almost been enjoyable. It has definitely been easy and quick to write. I better be careful; I’ll be turning into Miss Congeniality before I know it.
