College has been an amazing experience so far. It has been full of opportunities and has provided endless amounts of freedom. I have been able to use my time the way I please, without having to answer to anyone else. Fortunately, I have been able to manage it correctly. I'm still working on getting enough sleep, but other than that I wouldn't have changed a thing. For example, if I feel like going to bed early and waking up early, then I can do just that. On the other hand, if I want to stay up all night and spend time with my friends, I can do just that as well. Unfortunately, with the new freedom provided, there has been more responsibility as well. I now have to provide everything for myself and always make sure I am on time to everything. There is no one to make sure I wake up on time in the morning except my alarm. Unlike high school, I have to buy my own books and walk half way across campus just to get to class. Previously, I would just have to sit in a classroom, maybe walk down a flight of stairs to another floor, and the books and teachers would come to me. This is one of the few disadvantages I can think of concerning the college life compared to high school.
Another part of college I am enjoying is taking the classes I desire to take. Back in high school I was still able to choose, but I didn’t have nearly the freedom provided in college to choose a major and choose between hundreds of classes. I’ve had the opportunity to study what I want, when I want – which is another change from high school. Being able to choose the time my classes are has proven to be very convenient. I can now get all of my classes done before lunch and have the rest of the day to go to the gym or anything else I would like.
Joining a fraternity has also been a great experience. It has been a great opportunity to meet new people who will be my friends for the rest of my life. All of the social activities including game days, swaps, and pledge parties have been so much fun. It is hard for me to imagine going through college without being a part of the greek life. I really have enjoyed the opportunity to prove myself responsible to my parents, professors, and myself. I think I can get used to this.
